mDAR Bridges The Divide
It was only last year that we caught wind that Samsung was partnering (well, now partnered) with Scanbuy for their 2d barcode efforts. And I did mention, from time to time, that we expect more to come. Samsung launched their line of mobile phones that comes with barcode readers ready for use. It will be an incredible hit because many other mobile phone companies are following suit. This will, indirectly, affect the stats on the number of people who have 2d barcode reading enabled phones….especially in the United States.
If you’ve not heard, then let us be the first website to tell you that Skycore debuted with mDAR this week at the Wireless Enterprise Symposium. mDAR is a company that develops and strategizes 2d barcode marketing and promotion, mainly with print advertisements, outdoor ads and ecommerce mobile technology. When a mobile phone user scans a 2d barcode with their phones, it can lead them to a mobile web page where they can get exclusive stuff like discounts or media files from the web….straight into their phones. The technology weds traditional marketing with the new online media social marketing buzz – two worlds with one technology.
Before the event, Skycore was already testing out the technology on some of their invitees. You see, I heard that they sent out invites for the conference via MMS whereby the barcode was attached. The barcode, as it turns out, is the ticket for the conference. People with the ‘ticket’ can attend the event by flashing the 2d barcode when they get to the event venue.
It’s a neat way of introducing people to the power of 2d barcode technology.
What’s really interesting is the fact that mDAR is open source, which technically means that anyone with knowledge and skills can modify it to suit their own purposes or they can come up with supporting stuff to enhance the features and stuff like that. Using the technology, popularity and stats can be checked.
In case you don’t already know, you can use 2d barcodes for ticketing, couponing, IDs, payment, loyalty programs and many, many more stuff. Many countries are already introducing their 2d barcode paperless boarding pass system.
Google, some say, is Midas, everything it touches turns to gold. Well, just for your information, Google recently launched their Beta program for advertisers who were interested in using 2d barcodes for their ads.
