Curious QR Code On NYC Sanitation Trucks To Encourage Recycling
It was announced that from now onwards, more than two-thousand of the New York City's sanitation trucks will carry a QR Code. Wow. Just wow. For those who are not clear about what a QR Code can do, here's a little explanation.
QR Codes is a widely used 2D Barcode system that had been in use in Japan for over a decade. The code can carry messages, links and other private information like flight boarding pass information, coupons, membership card details and much, much more. At the current stage of development in NYC, QR codes are being used as offline links to online stuff. Basically, when you load a QR Code reader up on a smart phone (iPhone or Blackberry, etc), and scan the QR Code, it will lead you directly to the intended content.
NYC's official broadcast network, NYC Media, released the news that when New Yorkers scan the QR Code which will be located at the back of sanitation trucks, it will resolve to a video on recycling. The video is called The Green Apple featuring sanitation police officers who will hit the streets enforcing stricter rules against offenders who do not take care of the environment or goes against the green movement.
Recycling in many parts of the world has become an enforceable law. With the current state of our environment, we SHOULD do everything that we can to preserve Mother Earth. The NYC sanitation police officers will have the hardy duties of going through garbage bins to ensure that items are being separated properly for proper disposal and recycling.
So, for those who are in the dark about what the rules are and how they are going to be enforcing these laws, just pull out your smart phone and scan the QR Codes found on NYC sanitation trucks.
The local authorities and promoters of the campaign are excited about using the new technology to encourage recycling. New Yorkers, as you can see, are no longer strangers to this curious little technology.
